About
'Walking The Grid' is an evolving artistic archive that maps movement, observation, and intervention across Southampton and its surrounding landscapes. Using walking as both a method and medium, the project documents photographs, routes, site-specific works, and the overlooked visual language of the city (its arrows, signs, markings, and accidental compositions).
This platform acts as a living database: a record of movement, observation, and response as the project unfolds. Many of the works are temporary, composed of biodegradable materials absorbed back into the environment, imagining this platform as both evidence and trace.
'Walking The Grid' is a catalogue, a report, and a placement. It captures a practice in motion, expanding across mediums, locations, and time. It encourages a slower, more attentive way of seeing the urban environment.
What happens when we stop treating the street as a route, and begin to read it as a site?
